More than 800,000 visitors pass through Sumter annually as tourists and we may never know who they are. The tourism industry is powerful in Sumter, with more than a 64 million dollar economic impact in 2007. The Sumter tourism industry has more than doubled within the past 10 years and produced nearly 800 tourism related jobs with an annual payroll of 12 million dollars.
