City of Sumter Aquatics Center

The City of Sumter Aquatics Center is located adjacent to the South Hope Center at 1115 S. Lafayette Dr. Sumter, South Carolina. This center meets requirements for competition swim meets and equipped with swim lanes, slide, and wade-pool entrance with fountain.

COMMUNITY SWIM LESSONS - May 18-June 4, 2010
Community Swim Lessons will be from 4:30-5:15pm (ages 6-12) and 5:15-6pm (ages 13 and up). Sponsored by the American Red Cross and the City of Sumter. Three weeks of FREE “Learn to Swim” classes will be offered through June 4^th for ages 6 to adult. The first session is May 18th –May 21st, second session May 25th- May 28th, and third session is June 1st-June 4th. Students must sign up for swim lessons before each weekly session begins. This class is for beginner swimmers only. Students will learn basic swim skills along with basic rescue techniques. For an application form CLICK HERE.

SWIM TEAM PRACTICE – May 18, 2010 through August 13, 2010
Swim Team Practice will be Tuesday through Friday (May 18-June 4) from 3:30-4:30pm and Monday through Friday (June 7-August 13) from 8-9:30am.  The swim team will be eligible to compete in official USA Swim South Carolina meets as well as participate in local community events. Swimmers will advance from developmental (beginners) to advance levels of competition. The swim team uses a team concept that will emphasizes safety, fun, fitness, and friendship for the entire family. The team will be supervised by A.R.C. certified lifeguards and USA Swim certified coaches. Cost is $5.00 weekly or $20 per month - Registration will be on May 10th from 3:30-5:00pm. LEARN TO SWIM - June 8, 2010 through TBA
The city of Sumter Aquatics Center offers swim lessons for ages 3 and up and a parent/”tot” (6mo.-3 yrs) class. Students will learn swim strokes and rescue techniques appropriate for their skill level, as well as general pool safety. All classes are taught by certified ARC instructors. Weekly classes begin June 8, 2010 and will be held through the rest of summer. Tuesday through Friday afternoons from 5:30-6:15pm or on Saturday mornings upon request. Sign up and choose your class time early! Space is limited. Cost for one week (Tuesday-Friday): $20. Cost for two weeks (Tuesday-Friday): $30. GUARD START - June 8, 2010 through TBA
Classes start June 8^th and will be ongoing throughout the summer! The city of Sumter Aquatics Center will offer a Guard Start: Lifeguarding tomorrow class for individuals ages 11 years-14 years. Students must have good swimming skills including knowledge of front crawl. In this class your objectives will include prevention, fitness, response, leadership and professionalism. This program will provide a foundation of Aquatic and leadership knowledge, as well as skills for future successful completion of the Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course. A swim test is required for all who want to take this class. Cost is $35 per person. Classes are from 11am-1pm. For an application form CLICK HERE.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING - April 13, 2010 through July 23, 2010 
The City of Sumter Aquatics Center will offer a lifeguard class for individuals 16 years and older. Students must have good swimming skills including knowledge of front crawl and breast stroke. Learning the proper techniques for making water rescues, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED training, and First Aid are all a part of this class. After successful completion of this course you will be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding. Classes are from 4:30-6:30pm. SWIM CAMP SESSION I - August 2-6, 2010
SWIM CAMP SESSION II - August 9-13, 2010
Swim Camp is from 9:00am-1:00pm Monday-Friday. For Ages 6 to 12. Featuring swim lessons, fun & safety, innovative games, guest speakers, camp t-shirts and much more! Limited space, sign-up today! WATER EXERCISE CLASSES - May 18, 2010 through TBA
Tuesday through Thursday from 6:15-7:00pm you can enjoy aerobic water exercises using noodles and bar bells and other unique resistive equipment. $2 per person, per class

TAI CHI CLASS
Saturday 9am to 10am
Cost is $18 for 6 weeks, or $4 per class.
Entrance fee only.
